The Indonesian law on data protection remains subpar since these rules are dispersed around the country and solely adhere to the main provisions of each legislation. The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool for safeguarding personal data and to determine whether it is necessary for the Indonesian government to adopt a specific regulation to protect personal data. A statutory approach and a comparative legal approach are used in this study. Based on the research, it suggests the Indonesian government to prioritize on adopting and enacting regulation on personal data security/protection. Utilizing AI's capabilities is another way to optimize the work put into safeguarding personal data.
